Bosa sits out Chargers practice with leg injury

SAN DIEGO (AP) It was a familiar scene at Monday's San Diego Chargers practice: Joey Bosa wasn't working.

Bosa, who missed 31 days and the preseason because of a contract dispute, didn't participate in the workout.

The Chargers began preparations for Sunday's opener against the Kansas City Chiefs without their top draft pick. Bosa, the third overall selection, watched the session with his left leg wrapped and he walked with a slight limp.

''He was a little tight today, so we decided to hold him out,'' coach Mike McCoy said. ''We are going take it a day at a time and it's all part of the process we are going to go through. When he is ready to participate and be in game shape, he will be out there ready to play.''

While the injury isn't considered serious, it calls into question Bosa's status for Sunday.

But McCoy said it was the normal `bumps and bruises'' that Bosa, a defensive end, is going through. Bosa hasn't taken part in contact drills and McCoy wasn't sure if the team would be in pads later this week.

''I just want to get him feeling like he is ready to roll and to play in a game,'' McCoy said.

Right guard D.J. Fluker returned to practice after missing the final two preseason games. Fluker, who battled leg issues last year, was believed to be out with a right foot injury.
