SAN DIEGO (AP) Rookie Joey Bosa missed Wednesday's padded practice, increasing the likelihood that he'll miss the San Diego Chargers' home opener against Jacksonville on Sunday.

Bosa is slowed by a hamstring injury and still hasn't gone through a padded practice with the Chargers, who took him with the No. 3 pick overall in the draft.

He missed all of training camp due to a nasty holdout. He sat out Sunday's stunning overtime loss at Kansas City due to the injury.

The Chargers kept Bosa on the roster-exempt list until activating him on Monday. He took the roster spot of wide receiver Keenan Allen, who went on season-ending injury reserve after tearing up his right knee.

Bosa said on Monday that he was looking forward to practicing this week. He was not made available to the media Wednesday.

Coach Mike McCoy continues to say Bosa is day-to-day.

''I really can't give you a great update until he's out here in pads, you know, and he's out here practicing with the team, that his odds will go way up, whether or not he's going to play in the game,'' McCoy said. '' I'm never going to rule him out until we officially put him out.''

Wednesday was the Chargers' only practice in pads this week.

The Chargers blew a 21-0 point, third-quarter lead at Kansas City and lost 33-27.
