49ers activate Aaron Lynch, place NaVorro Bowman on IR

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) The San Francisco 49ers have removed linebacker Aaron Lynch from the roster exemption list and placed linebacker NaVorro Bowman on injured reserve.

Lynch was activated in time to play Thursday night against Arizona. Lynch was suspended for the first four games for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Lynch tied for the team lead with 6 1/2 sacks last season and is expected to bolster San Francisco's defense.

Bowman suffered a season-ending injury to his Achilles tendon last Sunday against Dallas.
