49ers' Carlos Hyde unsure about playing vs Saints

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) San Francisco 49ers running back Carlos Hyde said he suffered an AC joint injury in his shoulder that may prevent him from playing Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.

Hyde returned to practice this week after sustaining the injury in the second half of a loss to the Bills on Oct. 16.

''It's definitely gotten a lot better,'' Hyde said. ''I think if I just take it day by day, it will continue to get better.''

Hyde's status will be determined closer to game time.

''It's really how much movement, how much range of motion does he have and then the assessment of what the doctors and the trainers say after tomorrow, after Friday and Saturday's training sessions,'' 49ers coach Chip Kelly said.

Hyde is tied for third in the NFL with six rushing touchdowns despite missing the team's previous game against the Buccaneers. In his place, San Francisco tried out a trio of running backs, DuJuan Harris, Mike Davis and Shaun Draughn, who combined for 76 yards on 19 carries. Colin Kaepernick led the team with 84 yards rushing in the 34-17 loss.

The 49ers have the fourth-ranked rushing attack, but have struggled with consistency on the ground.

''I think the running game's been kind of hit and miss,'' left tackle Joe Staley said. "It's those tiny things. Right now, everyone knows you're struggling. How do you remedy that? You just get back down to basics.''

NOTES: CB Rashard Robinson (knee sprain) and LB Aaron Lynch (ankle) missed practice for the second straight day. ... Rookie CB Will Redmond could make his NFL debut Sunday after the 49ers opened his practice window before the bye week. He was placed on injured reserve to allow him more time to recover from an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered while he was at Mississippi State.
