Cowboys’ Rolando McClain suspended indefinitely under substance abuse policy
Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain has been suspended indefinitely under the league’s substance abuse policy, the team announced.
ESPN reported earlier this week that McClain was facing a yearlong suspension for a repeat offense. He will be unable to reapply for reinstatement until Nov. 2017.
McClain is currently serving a 10-game suspension for violating the NFL's Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse, after he tested positive for opiates. He would have been eligible to be reinstated by the Cowboys on Monday, Dec. 5, but has been on the reserve/did not report list all season. Owner Jerry Jones said recently that McClain would not be released, and that he would be a part of the team if eligible.
McClain missed the first four games of the 2015 season for a drug-related violation. He was also arrested three times between Dec. 1, 2011 and April 21, 2013.
The 10th pick in the 2010 draft out of Alabama, McClain joined the Cowboys in 2014 and made 161 combined tackles in 24 games for the team in 2014 and 2015.
Dallas is 11–1 after Thursday’s win in Minnesota, the league’s top mark.
