NFL Rescinds Fine for Super Bowl Hit by Eagles’ C.J. Gardner-Johnson, per Report
The NFL has rescinded the $14,111 fine against Eagles defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson for a tackle during the fourth quarter of February’s Super Bowl, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Gardner-Johnson’s agent, Kevin Conner, confirmed the news to Pelissero.
With 4:29 left in regulation and the game tied at 35, Chiefs rookie running back Isiah Pacheco was running up the field when Gardner-Johnson hit him. There was no flag on the play, but Pacheco did leave the game for several plays. Replay showed the Philadelphia DB hit Pacheco in the chest with his helmet.
Kansas City went on to win 38–35, and Gardner-Johnson was hit with a hefty fine after the fact.
The 25-year-old was the co-interceptions leader this past season, with six interceptions and 67 tackles in 2022. Given his season and upside, Gardner-Johnson will surely command a healthy cost when he enters free agency this offseason.
