Miles Sanders Posts Cryptic Tweet After Eagles’ Rashaad Penny Signing

The Eagles agreed to terms with former Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny on Tuesday, bringing the 27-year-old to Philadelphia, where he figures to play a pivotal role in the backfield.

After news of Penny’s deal with the Eagles broke, running back Miles Sanders took to Twitter, seemingly bidding farewell to the city of Philadelphia.

“To the city of Philadelphia Thank You from the bottom of my heart,” wrote Sanders with an emoji of two hands forming a heart shape.

The Eagles’ acquisition of Penny likely signals the end of Sanders’s tenure with the franchise. The 25-year-old is set to become a free agent when the new league year begins Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET, and it doesn’t appear that a new contract is on the horizon.

The former second-round pick appeared in 57 games since being selected with the 53rd overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft. In 2022, Sanders started 15 games, appearing in all 17, racking up a career-high 1,269 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.

That comes on the heels of a 2021 campaign during which he failed to record a single rushing touchdown.

Despite a strong year, the Eagles’ decision to add Penny to the roster indicates that Sanders isn’t likely to be retained, and it seems he’s come to that realization, too.
