Derek Carr Excited for Jameis Winston’s Return to Saints

Winston will return for his fourth season in New Orleans.

Veteran quarterback Jameis Winston announced his decision to re-sign with the Saints on Wednesday. Among those ecstatic about the move? His new teammate, Derek Carr.

Carr, who earlier this month signed a four-year, $150 million deal with New Orleans, posted an effusive reaction on his Instagram story while re-sharing Winston’s announcement on Wednesday. It seems the two new teammates are off to a strong start to their partnership.

Earlier in the day, Winston shared a heartfelt message about why he decided to return to the Saints, lauding his connection with the fan base and the city, and asserting his belief that the Saints have a championship-caliber roster. He also wrote that he still views himself as a starting quarterback, though his focus is on being able to stay on the field after injuries have limited him to just 14 games over the past three seasons.

“Let there be no doubt, I am still a championship caliber starting quarterback in this league,” Winston wrote. “However, getting healthy and staying healthy is my number one priority and I have suffered three devastating injuries over the last two years. I need to stay healthy to assist this team in getting to where we want to go. Most importantly, I need to stay healthy to get me where I want to go in my career! With that being said, I will serve and lead however I need to see this organization and this city win!”
