Mayfields File Petition Over Concerns About $12 Million in Investments

On Tuesday, lawyers representing Baker Mayfield and his wife Emily filed a petition in a Texas court seeking information over a potential misuse of $12 million at an investment firm where several members of Mayfield’s family work.

The petition named multiple defendants, including Camwood Capital Management Group, Camwood Ventures, Texas Contract Manufacturing Group, Unitech, Apex Machining and Lor-Van, and is asking a Travis County District Court to hand over financial records since 2018.

“Petitioners simply do not know if their money has been properly and competently invested, has been stolen or otherwise misappropriated, or something in between,” the petition said, via KXAN.com.

Since getting drafted No. 1 in the 2018 NFL draft, Mayfield has made just under $50 million in total cash, per Spotrac. He signed a one-year, $8.5 million contract with the Buccaneers in the offseason.

At the moment, the Mayfields do not plan on filing a lawsuit against anybody, as they are just trying to access information regarding the $12 million. Additionally, the witnesses named in the petition are Mayfield’s immediate family members.

“On information and belief, a substantial sum of Petitioners’ assets were transferred out of Petitioners’ personal accounts to TCMG, potentially at the direction and supervision of Camwood Group and/or Camwood Ventures, and were used by TCMG to fund certain investments, make certain acquisitions, or to fund certain loans. Other of Petitioners’ assets were transferred directly to Camwood Ventures and invested in various entities on behalf of Petitioners,” the petition said, via KXAN.com.
