Bears’ Justin Fields Apologizes to Teammates, Fans After Humbling Loss to Packers

It was supposed to be a new era for the Bears, but Sunday looked all too familiar to Chicago fans.

The Packers marched into Soldier Field without Aaron Rodgers, the man who has tortured their franchise for years, with Jordan Love set to start under center. The Bears, with their own franchise quarterback and new-look squad after an offseason spending spree, were intent on ending Green Bay’s dominant ways.

Except they didn’t. Love started his tenure as the face of the Packers franchise with 245 passing yards and three touchdown passes in the lopsided 38–20 affair. It marked Green Bay’s ninth consecutive victory over Chicago.

The Week 1 loss was so disappointing that Bears QB Justin Fields felt an apology was in order.

Bears quarterback Justin Fields offered a mea culpa after his team’s season-opening loss to the visiting Packers.

“It definitely hurts, not only because it’s the first game of the season and it’s a loss, but it’s a loss to them,” Fields said, per the Chicago Tribune. “Just want to say sorry to teammates and all the fans that were rooting for us. We’ll bounce back and be good.”

Fields recorded 216 passing yards, one touchdown pass and one interception in the loss. He also ran for 59 yards and was sacked four times.

Chicago will look to bounce back next Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on the road against the Buccaneers
