Saquon Barkley Downplays Giants’ Brutal 40-0 Loss to Cowboys

The star New York Giants running back is approaching it as just another game.

The pro football world absolutely ripped the Giants for their 40–0 loss to the visiting Cowboys on Sunday night, but after the game, Saquon Barkley seemed to treat the defeat as if it were just another game.

The Giants’ star running back was asked what the message was to the rookies on the team after such a disastrous start to the season, and he responded like a true veteran. 

“It’s the National Football League. Simple as that. You gotta move on,” Barkley told reporters. “The train gonna keep on moving—hop on. I told them all before, you prepare for this moment your whole life, [so it’s] nothing new. You gonna have bad games. You gonna have bad plays in the NFL. Happens to all of us.”

While that might be a healthy mindset to have after a blowout loss, this didn’t feel like just any loss. New York was absolutely dominated in every facet of the game and gave the home crowd virtually nothing to cheer for during the rainy shutout. Barkley recorded 12 carries for 51 yards while the offense stumbled its way to just 171 total yards.

It’s a long season, and there’s plenty of football yet to be played, but it likely will be a while before the Giants get this bad taste out of their mouths.

The Giants play next on Sunday in Arizona against the Cardinals, with kickoff scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET.
