Bears’ Justin Fields Apologized to Bears Coaches Following Media Comments, per Report
Bears quarterback Justin Fields made waves this past week when he said coaching was one of the reasons for his “robotic” play vs. the Buccaneers as he described it. His comments evoked quite a reaction from the NFL world and he would later walk them back, but during the chaotic media frenzy he apologized to both offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko for his comments, according to ESPN.
It all started Wednesday when Fields was talking to reporters and said that he is thinking too much on the field and needs to play more off of instinct. When a reporter asked why he’s thinking too much, he said “ could be coaching.”
“They’re doing their job when they’re giving me what to look at, stuff like that,” Fields said Wednesday. “But at the end of the day, I can’t be thinking about that when the game comes.”
Once he saw the reaction his comments got, he apologized to his coaches after Wednesday’s practice and made it clear that he values their coaching, per ESPN. Both coaches accepted the apology and looked toward preparing the offense for the Chiefs on Sunday.
Later in the day, Fields said his comments were taken out of context and went as far as to say he’d “never” blame his coaches or teammates for anything, contradicting his comments just hours earlier. Despite the ugly public sequence of events, all appears to be good within the Chicago locker room and the offense will look to improve vs. Kansas City with kick off scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET on Fox.
