Titans Don’t Plan to Trade Derrick Henry Ahead of Deadline, per Report

With the 2023 trade deadline quickly approaching, NFL teams hoping to land Derrick Henry may be forced to look elsewhere following the latest update on the Titans star running back.

Henry, 29, will likely remain in Tennessee after being informed recently by the team there are no plans to trade him, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday. Tennessee's reported decision comes amid inquiries from teams around the NFL regarding Henry’s availability.

Interestingly, Schefter’s report went on to note that while the Titans don’t intend to move Henry, that doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t by Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET cutoff.

As of Saturday, there remains a belief among some in the league that “there is a chance Henry could be traded,” per Schefter, who also noted the 2020 Offensive Player of the Year has not drawn substantial interest “because of his age, production, expiring contract and cost for the rest of this season.”

Set to earn $6.4 million for the remainder of 2023, Henry, despite the Titans’s current plan, could still remain a trade candidate to watch over the next few days. The lack of buzz may be notable, but any deal for the three-time Pro Bowler would be huge, especially with his contract expiring at season’s end.

With the eight-year pro set to stay in Tennessee, the Titans (2–4) will hope Henry can help turn around their season starting in Week 8 against the Falcons after logging 425 yards and three touchdowns on 98 carries through the first six games,
