A.J. Brown Downplays Trade Talk Rumors Following Disappointing End to Eagles Season
The Philadelphia Eagles had a rough end to their year, losing six of the last seven games of their season. To exacerbate matters, wide receiver A.J. Brown did not play during wild-card weekend, and it was clear the team missed him during the game.
There is no indication the Eagles want to trade Brown, and the veteran wide receiver continues to brush aside the idea. While speaking with Sports Illustrated’s Robin Lundberg, Brown said he has been traded before, so the idea of a trade is not a concern.
“I’ve been through this before, I’m a vet at this point,” Brown said. “If something happens then my phone will ring and I’ll be waiting and if not, I’ve built my time.”
Philadelphia traded for Brown on draft night in 2022, and immediately signed the wide receiver to a four-year, $100 million contract extension. Since then, Brown has produced back-to-back years with at least 1,400 receiving yards and a combined 18 receiving touchdowns.
However, Lundberg specifically asked if Brown was preparing to play for the Eagles in 2024, and Brown notably declined to say one way or another.
“I’m prepared to focus on my family at home and get better in the offseason, then just seeing where this thing goes,” he said.
Brown is signed through 2026 and will cost just over $12 million against the cap next season. The Eagles are likely not going to trade Brown as long as they are trying to win, but anything can happen in the NFL.
