Mitchell Trubisky, Steelers to Part Ways Ahead of Free Agency
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Mitchell Trubisky have mutually agreed to go their separate ways, Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network reported Monday.
Trubisky, who has been with the Steelers since 2022, is expected to seek a fresh start ahead of the ‘24 season, and will look to find a new NFL home during free agency in March.
Just last offseason, Pittsburgh and Trubisky were able to come to an agreement on a there-year contract extension that would pay him a total of $19.4 million. Just one year into that deal, the sides have opted to split.
Trubisky would’ve been due $5.25 million in ‘24, but following his release is set to re-enter free agency ahead of his age-30 season.
He featured in five games last season, making two starts, and throwing for four touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 62.6% of his pass attempts.
The former Chicago Bears’ No. 2 pick has made just seven starts over the past three seasons with the Buffalo Bills and Steelers, and he’ll likely be in the running to land a backup gig when the new league year begins on March 13.
With Trubisky out of the mix in Pittsburgh, Kenny Pickett will be the only quarterback remaining on the Steelers’ roster come the new league year, as Mason Rudolph is also set to hit unrestricted free agency with his contract due to expire.
