New NFL Hall of Famer Steve McMichael Hospitalized Thursday, Family Says

Former Chicago Bears defensive lineman Steve McMichael, who has been battling ALS since 2021, was hospitalized on Thursday, his family said in a statement. McMichael was first taken to the hospital out of suspicion of pneumonia, but the family later said he is battling a urinary tract infection and remained in the ICU overnight.

“Continued prayers are appreciated for Steve’s speedy recovery,” the family said.

McMichael, also known as “Mongo,” played 15 years in the NFL, mainly with the Bears, making four All-Pro teams and two Pro Bowls while totaling 847 tackles and 95 sacks. The 66-year-old was officially announced earlier this month as one of the seven members in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024
