Troy Aikman Backed Dak Prescott Again by Using Peyton Manning Comparison

The biggest criticism that looms over Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is that he has yet to make a Super Bowl in his eight seasons with the team.

In fact, the Cowboys haven't made it past the divisional round since the 1995 season when the team last won a Super Bowl title. The 2024 season holds a lot of weight for Prescott's future with the Cowboys, as he's entering the last year of his four-year, $160 million contract. Depending on the outcome of Dallas' season, Prescott could be on his way out.

Fans question Prescott's capabilities because of his playoff struggles, but Prescott consistently has one strong supporter: former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman. The ESPN analyst even compared Prescott's playoff woes to another legendary quarterback's—Peyton Manning.

“I still believe in Dak,” Aikman said, via Mike Fisher of Athlon.com. “I think that until you do it, there’s always those criticisms. I know Peyton Manning went through that. His first three years, he didn’t win a playoff game, and then you look back on it now and you can’t imagine that anyone would question whether or not he could win a playoff game.”

Manning was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 1998, but didn't win a playoff game until his third season, as Aikman pointed out. Similarly, Prescott didn't win his first playoff game until his third season. Manning finished his NFL career with two Super Bowl titles and four Super Bowl appearances over the course of 15 playoff runs.
