49ers Signing Former Saints CB Isaac Yiadom

Looks like the 49ers are bringing in some competition to the cornerback room after signing this former Saints player.

An addition to the cornerback room has been made.

The San Francisco 49ers are signing former New Orleans Saints cornerback Isaac Yiadom, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Yiadom is a six year veteran who was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the third round of the 2018 NFL draft. Since then, Yiadom has had stints with the New York Giants, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, and then the Saints. Being a journeyman is a bit of a red flag. It means he was never valued enough to be retained.

However, Yiadom is coming off the best season of his career. He played in all 17 games for the Saints while getting to start in eight of them. In that span, he registered 37 total tackles, 14 passes defended, one interception. When he was targeted he allowed 22 catches for 13.1 yards per catch with a passer rating of 84.4.

So, Yiadom is a decent player who is starting to figure it out. Pro Football Focus seems to like him as they have him graded out well with a green 81.1 grade. Looks like the 49ers are bringing him in as competition for the cornerback position. Deommodore Lenoir and Charvarius Ward have their positions locked up.

But outside of them, the 49ers don't really have a player they are fully vested in. Ambry Thomas played pretty well when he was installed as the starter in Week 9, but it doesn't seem that the 49ers are bought in. Besides, it doesn't hurt to bring in competition with a player like Yiadom who could start hitting his stride.
