Now might be a good time to place a wager on Brock Purdy to win the NFL's MVP Award.

Until recently, he wasn't viewed as the best player on his own offense -- that distinction typically goes to Christian McCaffrey. But the MVP Award generally goes to a quarterback, and Purdy currently leads the NFL in passer rating by a wide margin at 123.1. If he keeps this up, he'll have to be the MVP.

Compare Purdy to Matt Ryan, who won was the MVP in 2016 when Kyle Shanahan was his offensive coordinator. That season, Matt Ryan led the NFL with a passer rating of 117.1 -- one of the best seasons ever. But if Purdy maintains a 123 passer rating the rest of the year, it would be statistically the greatest season ever by a quarterback.

And Purdy seems to be getting better as the season goes on. And he has the best group of offensive weapons in the league. And he has an elite defense so he almost always plays with a lead. And he has an elite play designer and play caller in Kyle Shanahan. Purdy is in a perfect position to succeed.

And yet, he currently isn't the favorite to be the MVP -- the favorite is Patrick Mahomes at +500, because of his reputation, not because of his stats this season. His passer rating currently is 96.

Purdy currently is +700 to win the award, along with Jalen Hurts and Allen. Elite company for the 49ers' young quarterback. If the 49ers keep winning, his odds will improve.
