What Trey Lance Thinks About a "Fresh Start" Trade From 49ers

In this story:

Trade scenarios involving Trey Lance were never ending once the season came to an end for the 49ers.

With Brock Purdy being the embedded starter, it has made Lance more expendable than not. That is why there was a report that the 49ers did confirm about fielding calls about the availability of Lance. A trade was definitely possible had the 49ers seen value in it.

As for Lance, he actually might've benefited being traded to give himself a "fresh start" that he needs. It's not like the 49ers are really invested in him heavily anymore. They're just going with the healthy and most efficient quarterback now, which isn't optimal for Lance.

However, Lance doesn't view it that way. Here is what he had to say about a "fresh start" trade from the 49ers and if he would prefer it:

“No, not at all. I knew where I wanted to be. I just want an opportunity to compete. I love it here. I love the coaching staff. I love working with [quarterbacks coach Brian] Griese and [assistant quarterbacks] Klay [Kubiak] and now [offensive passing game specialist] Klint [Kubiak] as well. Love the quarterback room, love the guys in the locker room. No doubt for me, this is absolutely where I want to be.”

Lance would have been more than justified if he wanted to seek a trade. A fresh start for him would probably be what is best for him since whoever would acquire him is likely going to be committed to him unlike the 49ers. Despite the 49ers not caring if he wins the starting job or not, Lance remains committed to the team that made him a pro.

He gives the perfect answer to it. And maybe he is just saying that to look good, but I think he is being genuine in wanting to remain with the 49ers despite the setbacks. For Lance to want out, it would show he is quitting when adversity hits him. It looks even worse since he hasn't done anything in his career yet, so who is he to desire a trade?

This situation is being converted from a negative to a positive for Lance. You have to commend him for that. He isn't shirking away from anything. He welcomes all challenges and has the utmost confidence in himself. Now that he is fully fit with his finger no longer a hindrance, he has the tools and capability to finally put it all together.

Should Lance win the starting job, then this answer he gave about a potential trade from the 49ers will be revisited and looked upon as a moment where he welcomed all the hurdles.
