49ers overcome their butter fingers with a 24-20 win over Steelers

Butter fingers is the name of the game for the San Francisco 49ers in their 24-20 week three win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

For five straight offensive drives to start the game the 49ers turned over the ball. They were pretty much telling the Steelers to win the game. Luckily for the 49ers, their defense answered the call once again and kept the game within reach. This defense was being sold to us as vastly improved, and they have lived up to the hype through three games.

Two of these three wins have been won by the defense. Mason Rudolph could not get anything going all game. Other than two big plays that led to touchdowns, the Steeler’s offense was obsolete. Thanks to that, the 49ers offense was able to get plenty of opportunities to overcome the turnovers.

The stats may not support it, but Jimmy Garoppolo played phenomenally. He showed us that he has no problem sitting in the pocket and taking a shot to deliver the throw. That’s a big indication of his toughness, which should quell any doubt about his health from his torn ACL.

It wasn’t pretty by any measure, much like week one, but the San Francisco 49ers have improved to 3-0. Their first 3-0 start since 1998. With the bye week now in full effect, the 49ers have time to get healthy. Players like Dee Ford and Ahkello Witherspoon who left the game with an ankle injury.

Week five will be a Monday night home game against the Cleveland Browns at Levi’s stadium. The Browns have so far disappointed this season, so the 49ers have a chance to be 4-0. The 49ers haven’t played their best ball yet and are 3-0. It is the greatest takeaway from today’s butter finger theme.

Be excited faithful, this team is making some noise in 2019.
