49ers Are in Good Hands with Ross Dwelley

The San Francisco 49ers were without star tight end George Kittle on Monday night, which factored into the team’s first loss. Now his status for Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals appears in doubt. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the 49ers have ruled out Kittle in week 11.
Kyle Shanahan hasn’t officially ruled him out, but I’d bet that Kittle is inactive. The risk for further injury just isn’t worth it against the Cardinals, especial with the tough stretch of games following. Besides, the 49ers are in good hands with Ross Dwelley. He didn’t play a major factor against the Seahawks, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a regular contributor.
Dwelley makes up part of the excellent blocking regime behind Kittle and Kyle Jusczcyk, who will also aid in the potential absence of Kittle. His blocking has been consistent in every game and he has even shown off his versatility filling in at fullback. The last part of his game that was yet to be seen was as a receiver. It was against the Cardinals a couple weeks ago that Dwelley came on as a reciever.
He had four catches for 29 yards, which isn't eye popping or anything like that. But he did prove to be a reliable target. Look no further than when he came through on third down for Jimmy Garoppolo to ice the game. It was a big moment for Dwelley to prove that he can be utilized in the passing game. Someone who can help keep the drive alive.
As a receiver, Dwelley has no chance to sniff Kittle's impact. There is no home run ability with Dwelley, which is fine because they do not need for him that. As long as he remains solid as a blocker and remains reliable as a receiver, then the 49ers are in good hands with him. It is just one more game that he will fill in for him after all. Or at least as of now that is the case.
Dwelley had a great game against the Cardinals last time the two teams played, so he'll surely look to replicate and enhance his efforts. The Cardinals are sure to make note of him and not overlook him this time. Since this game is being played within three weeks of each other, the familiarity will be strong. So long as Dwelley remains consistent, all will be well for the 49ers' offense.
