In this story:

It has been nothing but silence when it comes to the search for a defensive coordinator from the San Francisco 49ers.

That ended Monday when Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reported that the 49ers officially completed two interviews. One was with former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley and the other is 49ers defensive pass game specialist Nick Sorensen.

The 49ers are expected to be wrapped up with their interviews by the end of this week. Defensive back coach Daniel Bullocks is next in line to interview, and it is also possible that the 49ers consider a couple of more coaches externally. It took 12 days since Steve Wilks was fired for any update on the defensive coordinator search. Keeping that information close to the chest isn't new with the 49ers.

However, taking this long to find their new coordinator is.

While that may appear shocking or odd, it makes total sense for the 49ers to take this long. As I have written before, there is no need for the 49ers to be in a rush. “Haste makes waste” as the cliché saying goes. In the 49ers' case, they have to get their defensive coordinator hire right. Kyle Shanahan wants to avoid a situation like with Steve Wilks again. He wants to be able to actually trust his coordinator.

It's not like Shanahan wants to be involved like how he was with Wilks. And since the 49ers are the only team with a vacancy at defensive coordinator, they don't have to worry about potential candidates being picked off. It's all there for them to carefully consider and take their time.

The 49ers are approaching this perfectly.
