49ers Face a "Must Win" Game Against the Eagles

Chances to improve playoff seeding for the 49ers are starting to run out, but they can make the most of it if they beat the Eagles.

Eagles week is finally here for the 49ers.

This game was always going to be the toughest one on the schedule for the 49ers right when it was revealed. And sure enough, it is still the case. Beating the Eagles is going to demand zero margin for error from the 49ers. The fact that it is in Philadelphia only emphasizes that.

It won't be easy at all to defeat the Eagles. Nevertheless, the 49ers face a "must win" game against them. For starters, the 49ers need to confirm to themselves that they can beat the Eagles at Lincoln Field. Chances are that the 49ers are going to have to face the Eagles there again when the playoffs come around. For the 49ers to know that they can beat the Eagles should that playoff scenario come to fruition, it'll do so much for their confidence.

Another factor is that the 49ers are running out of chances to improve their playoff seeding. Time is starting to drain out on that. It would've been perfect had the Bills finished the job last week and defeated the Eagles, but now the 49ers find themselves two games back of them. Philadelphia has a mostly easy schedule the rest of the way too. All they have to do is get past the 49ers and Cowboys, then they'll be able to coast against other lowly opponents like the Giants (they face them twice).

Beating the Eagles now will bridge the gap that the 49ers are facing with the Eagles for the No. 1 seed in the NFC. And then they will have to hope that the Cowboys, since they have the best chances of beating the Eagles, do them a favor. I don't see a scenario where the Eagles lose a game that isn't to the 49ers and Cowboys.

So, the 49ers have to take care of business now to increase the chances of grabbing that No. 1 seed. That way they won't have to worry about their confidence facing the Eagles at Lincoln Field since they'll have home field advantage throughout the playoffs. A lot of pressure is on the 49ers going into this game.

Should they come out victorious, then they will have increased their momentum while potentially ruining the Eagles' own.
