49ers' Jalen Hurd and Jason Verrett can't shake the injury bug

The injury bug strikes again on the San Francisco 49ers as the team has decided to place rookie wide receiver Jalen Hurd and cornerback Jason Verrett on injured reserve. Hurd has been plagued by a fractured back and Verrett tweaked his knee in week three against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Now Hurd and Verrett can just focus on fully healing instead of rushing back to expose themselves to further injury. Both players will be out of action until we get past the mid-season point where the 49ers can start to activate players off injured reserve.
To fill the void left by the two, the 49ers have signed Jordan Matthews and Dontae Johnson. It only makes sense that they re-signed Matthews and Johnson since both have familiarity with the 49ers. There is no need for them to try and get up to speed with things, so that way they can be rolled out on game days.
The 49ers will have some tough decisions to make when it comes to choosing which players they will want to activate off injured reserve. Trent Taylor and Kentavius Street along with the two new additions will be the ones most likely to be activated. It will be telling to see who the 49ers will want to bring back.
For Jason Verrett, you can't help but sympathize with the guy. He just can't ever find his way to being completely healthy and you just wonder if he ever will be. For Jalen Hurd, it is better that he just focuses on his health in order to contribute to his fullest. The injury bug has not been too kind to the 49ers over the last few months with Joe Staley and Ahkello Witherspoon being the most notable.
In other injury related news, Tevin Coleman returned to the practice field today, which is an indication that he will be active for Monday night against the Cleveland Browns. Dee Ford was held out once again from practice, though the 49ers are hopeful he will play Monday. Ford's knee injury is something that will be on constant watch in case of it worsening.
We'll keep you updated on any new injury reports to the lead up to Monday Night Football.
