49ers' Mike McGlinchey will undergo minor knee surgey; Expected to miss 4-6 weeks

Starting right tackle Mike McGlinchey will be getting his knee scoped, which will keep him out of action for the next four-to-six weeks.

You cannot make this up with how much bad luck the San Francisco 49ers have suffered in terms of injuries to their players over the last two seasons. Yesterday it was revealed that fullback Kyle Juszczyk sustained an MCL sprain and would be out four-to-six weeks with an injury.

Now starting right tackle Mike McGlinchey will join him as he to has a knee injury. McGlinchey is expected to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery that will sideline him for four-to-six weeks. It simply is just unreal that so many key players of the 49ers are dropping like flies.

This will be the first time in Mike McGlinchey’s career at any level that he misses a football game due to injury. He stayed in the game Monday even after getting hurt, but it was later determined he’d need the knee scope.

With McGlinchey out, the 49ers will be without both of their starting offensive tackles. That makes it three key players who block exceptionally well for the 49ers are out if you include Juszczyk. Whatever ladder the 49ers walked under or mirror they broke, they have to try to reverse it. They could not afford all these injuries with the a crucial divisional matchup looming on Sunday with the Los Angeles Rams.

McGlinchey and Juszczyk are MAJOR injuries along with Staley.

Shanahan will be able to scheme up some offense but that defense will have to continue to play at a high level.

Winning that game definitely becomes less likely for the 49ers. They still have a shot, but it will be very tough for them to overcome since the Rams have had a few days extra to rest and prepare. The 49ers have been able to get over Joe Staley's absence since Justin Skule has performed so well.

But now a weaker link will be on that offensive line on the right side with Daniel Brunkskill who was a 2017 undrafted free agent out of San Diego State for the Atlanta Falcons. Brunskill never got to see the field in the NFL and was apart of the AAF for the San Diego Fleet. When the AAF failed, Brunskill was signed by the 49ers in April.

So the 49ers will have started two offensive tackles who will have made their starting debuts. If Kyle Shanahan somehow schemes a way to lessen the loss of McGlinchey, then he should already be the lead candidate for coach of the year. It'll be difficult to try and continue to succeed on offense with so many talented key players out, but if there is anyone who can it is the genius of Kyle Shanahan.
