49ers Stock Report: Three Risers and Fallers Going Into Week 10

Starting a season 8-0 is never an easy task for a football team. Just ask the New England Patriots who suffered their first loss this past Sunday to the Baltimore Ravens. The fact that the San Francisco 49ers have accomplished this just gives credence to their legitimacy.
However, this could not have been done without the stellar execution from the players. Kyle Shanahan and Robert Saleh deserve a ton of credit for the success of the team, but without the consistent execution of their players they wouldn't have much.
The win over the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night football showed us a lot about these players given that it was such a quick turnaround from Sunday. In that win, there were three players who were risers and fallers of their stock going into week 10.
Risers
Jimmy Garoppolo
It was a career day for Jimmy Garoppolo in the 49ers’ 28-25 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night. He had a career-high four touchdowns and 136.9 passer rating. Garoppolo’s stellar performance is sure to rub naysayers the wrong way. Critics of the 49ers used Garoppolo has the driving factor as to why they’re not a legitimate team.
There isn’t much they can say now after the elite performance he had. Sure, it was against the Cardinals, but he did it on a short week. That shouldn’t be taken for granted because of the strenuous process it is to get ready. Garoppolo’s stock has definitely risen as a result of his performance. That game has given some people a new perspective on hum .
Ross Dwelley
George Kittle’s knee injury turned out to be nothing serious, but had it been the 49ers would’ve been in a good spot with Ross Dwelley. The guy exploded in this game and came through in various moments throughout the game. There was no greater moment for him than when he and Garoppolo connected on the final play of the game to ice it. Dwelley really stepped up and proved he is a useful asset in this offense.
Not just as a blocker, but as a receiver. His emergence will spell doom for defenses because that just gives the 49ers another dynamic. It is already difficult enough to defend against this offense as it is. Having Dwelley prove to be a reliable receiver just further optimizes the offense. His stock will just continue to soar if he can come up for a much needed catch.
Emmanuel Sanders
The acquisition for Emmanuel Sanders from the Denver Broncos has already made a dramatic impact on the offense. The veteran receiver and Garoppolo have managed to establish a connection with scarce practice time. If there were any doubts about the trade for Sanders, they easily have been quelled through two games. His stock is soaring and that third round pick given up feels like a steal.
Sanders was the receiver that Garoppolo needed to shoulder the burden of the offense like he did against the Cardinals. There are going to be similar games where the running games isnt making a major impact. That is where Garoppolo can come in and dish it to Sanders in pivotal moments. Garoppolo now has a one-two punch with Kittle and Sanders. It’ll be a real treat seeing this relationship continue to improve as the season goes on.
Fallers
Emmanuel Moseley
Emmanuel Moseley’s stock took an immediate hit when he gave up a big play touchdown to Andy Isabella on a crossing route. Isabella had hardly done anything for the Cardinals, yet he was able to dust one of the better cornerbacks in the game. Now it was just one play, so Moseley gets the benefit of the doubt. It’s not like that one play is going to dramatically change his outlook.
Moseley has been performing at a high level since stepping in for the injured Ahkello Witherspoon. That play was a great teaching moment for him and should help prepare him for the ensuing matchup with the Seahawks on Monday night. It didn’t take a massive stab at his stock, however, that play did hurt it no matter how you look at it.
Deebo Samuel
What a gut wrenching moment it was to see Deebo Samuel drop the easy touchdown pass in the first half of Thursday nights game. As soon as that ball slipped through his hands his stock took an immediate drop. He was, however, able to salvage some of it when he made some catches to keep the offense on the field at various moments.
That dropped touchdown is just going to fuel Samuel to bouncing back stronger against the Seahawks. Just like for Moseley, it is a learning moment for him to capitalize on. Samuel is not seeing the same type of talent at cornerback now that Sanders garners the attention. He must not let another opportunity like that go to waster or Kyle Shanahan will not rely on him in similar situations.
49ers' Defense
The defense of the San Francisco 49ers was brought down to earth a bit when the Cardinals gashed them tremendously in the second half. It was easygoing for the 49ers' defense early on, but the Cardinals made the proper adjustments to put the defense on their heels. Arizona exploited a feint weakness on that defense, which is against the run. The Cardinals had success all game running the football with Kenyan Drake.
Not to mention Kyler Murray started utilizing his legs more with direct runs that caught the 49ers' defense off-guard.
There is now a blueprint on how to attack this vaunted defense, which comes at the worst time with Russell Wilson coming to town. The bright side to this was that this game was played on Thursday night, so fatigue definitely played a factor in the second half. There is also time for the 49ers to correct those mistakes since they have the extra days. This defense is still top notch, but their reputation did take a hit against the Cardinals.
