49ers Training Camp: Is Joshua Garnett in danger of being cut?

Day five of training camp concluded today for the San Francisco 49ers as we inch closer to their first preseason game on August 10th. Training camp is always a great preliminary stage for NFL players because it allows them to develop chemistry with their players and coaches. However, during chemistry building there is a side effect that can derail these players. Injuries is the side effect that not only disrupts the building, but could disrupt a player's status on the team.
When it comes to the San Francisco 49ers they currently face of a number of injuries. Most recently guard Joshua Garnett suffered a dislocation that has been nagging him since OTAs. Since his thumb could never fully heal he decided on surgery that will force him to miss three weeks of football. It may not seem like it's a great deal of time, but considering the underachieving career Garnett has had thus far it would behoove him to get as much practice time as possible.
Training camp is the only real chance these coaches get to see what their players can do before the hardship of the regular season begins. Because of this, the 49ers would be better off looking elsewhere at guard and giving three weeks of reps to another player. With that said, is Joshua Garnett in danger of being cut?
Time is precious in the NFL and it would not shock me if the 49ers wanted to go this route. However, Garnett at this point is somewhat of a veteran and is an incumbent player. The depth he provides at guard does get taken into account at some value. If Mike Person were to get injured, then they can easily slide Garnett into his spot. The only reason I would not be shocked if the 49ers cut Garnett is because he is not locked into the team after this season.
Remember the 49ers did not pick up his fifth-year option and likely won't re-sign him either. Getting a head start to look elsewhere at guard is not a bad move, but considering this a year that the San Francisco 49ers have enormous expectations. Any hindrance will not be tolerated aside from injuries. You just hope for Joshua Garnett's sake that he returns ready for the long journey.
