Kwon Alexander is proving to be the 49ers best offseason acquisition

During the NFL free agency period, it was felt that the San Francisco 49ers didn't do enough to add to their team. When you consider that they had one of the highest cap spaces out there, it was a bit surprising they didn't try to add a couple of more players. However, it wasn't the quantity of players the 49ers were looking to sign, it was the quality. That is where great signings like linebacker Kwon Alexander fit into this.
The linebacker position for the 49ers was a lacking spot. It wasn't as glaring as safety at the time, but it was a position they nonetheless had to improve. So general manager John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan sought out Kwon Alexander. Some teams viewed the former LSU product as damaged goods since he was coming off of a torn ACL. However, with the sudden release of Reuben Foster last season the 49ers needed to revamp the position.
They needed someone to lessen the blow of the busted draft pick that was Foster. Well the 49ers got that and more with Alexander. I know it is just two weeks of the regular season and he only played a quarter in the season opener. But it is undeniable that Kwon Alexander is an absolute stud. The impact he has on the defense is thoroughly felt. Whether that is as a leader or a contributor, the guy can do it all.
He is not just filling the hole left by Foster, he is adding onto it. The 49ers pretty much went from cable to DirecTV with the upgrade to Kwon Alexander. The guy is a beast running downhill to meet the run or can go out in coverage and actually contribute. Dual threat linebackers like that are hard to come across nowadays.

It's why teams are investing in safeties that can fill in the linebacker role. It's just more bang for your buck. But with Alexander, he is looking worth every penny of his contract. The best part about his game is that you don't see any hindrance from his injury. That's actually a huge relief considering the 49ers have had enough ACL issues over the last two seasons. Kwon Alexander just looks so fluid and sharp out there. He's playing without worry, which means he is acting on instinct.
That's why he has been so quick to react to the ball. Too many times we see players who come back from a major injury and look hesitant. You can't really blame them because they obviously do not want to get injured again. It's just another reason why to appreciate the signing of Alexander. I'm definitely jumping the gun early on this, but Kwon Alexander is proving to be the San Francisco 49ers best offseason acquisition.
