NFL Power Rankings Week 7: 49ers Rise to No. 2 Deflates the Pretenders Narrative

The latest NFL power rankings has the San Francisco 49ers ranked at No. 2. With this latest ranking, it just further proves the laziness of those who claim this team as "pretenders".

The way the San Francisco 49ers have been steam rolling teams, it was only a matter of time before they were slotted so high in the power rankings. The latest rankings have the 49ers rise from No. 4 to No. 2 with the New England Patriots, the only other undefeated team, ahead of them. Being neck and neck with the Patriots is always a good sign that a football team is successful.

Just like how being ranked No. 2 deflates the "pretenders' narrative that some people still give the 49ers. The delusion of these people is just reaching some sad levels. In every game this season the San Francisco 49ers have looked legitimate. It made sense to doubt them after their first few wins, but now that they're 5-0 it is time to give them their credit.

They rightfully deserve to be No. 2 in the power rankings, especially after they caused the Los Angeles Rams to tap out. Remember, the 49ers had five less days of preparation and rest than the Rams did. Not to mention being down some of their best players on offense. Yet that didn't derail this team by any measure.

That is the mettle of the Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers. Each week they have lost a key player to injury and they still move on like nothing happened. The result has been the same as they continue to stack up win after win. It is the result of phenomenal coaching and an elite group of players.

We are basically at the midway point of the 2019 regular season. To be ranked No. 2 after almost half of a season proves that the 49ers are not pretenders. They are one of the best teams in the league. Still, there will be critics who think that they will unravel soon. Well given their next three opponents I find that hard to believed.

The 49ers definitely have a chance to remain undefeated after these next three weeks with matchups against the Redskins, Panthers and Cardinals. During that time span, they will be recovering a lot of their injured key players which will just make this team that much more dangerous.
