Caleb Williams Could Be Setting a Trend

Caleb Williams is refusing to go along with normal NFL operating procedure regarding combine medical testing, according to a report by CBS Sports.

Quarterback Caleb Williams said in a published interview he isn't into being a trouble maker who forces his way out of playing for Chicago, and merely wants to be drafted.

However, he didn't say he would go along with the entire NFL draft process.

According to a report by CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, Williams did not submit to medical testing at the combine, but  he will do exams with teams he meets with individually during the pre-draft process.

According to the report, Williams is also not sharing his medical records with every team.

Obviously the list of teams Williams will share them with and do a physical for includes the Bears, as he has met with them in Indianapolis. It's been widely reported he also has met with the Commanders, Raiders, Vikings, Falcons, Patriots, Jets and Giants.

It makes Williams a bit of a rebel because players have complained often over the years about the extensive overkill in combine medical examinations, with doctors from various teams all asking the same questions.

Williams is doing a mass combine media interview on Friday morning.

He didn't do any of the workouts at the combine and is expected to work out for teams at the March 20 USC pro day. That's common, as no QB chosen first overall since Baker Mayfield in 2018 has done combine workouts.

It's possible a move like the one with the physicals could lead to many players following suit because of the general displeasure with perceived redundant medical testing practices by teams,

However, the medical testing has always been a major part of the combine, if not the most important part.
