DJ Moore's effort against Washington earns NFC offensive player of the week, something no Bears receiver had done in 24 years.

In this story:

A historic game from a Bears standpoint has earned DJ Moore a historic honor for the team.

For the first time since 1999, the Bears have a wide receiver who was NFC offensive player of the week.

Moore won it for catching three touchdown passes and eight total passes for 230 yards. The 230 yards was second most in team history. Moore had TD receptions of 56, 20 and 11 yards, and a 58-yard catch besides.

He also had what appeared to be a TD and another 30-plus yards wiped out by an official's incorrect whistle along the sidelines.

Maybe Muhsin Muhammad's famous quote to Sports Illustrated is no longer applicable: "Chicago is where wide receivers go to die."

"Well deserved, well deserved," Bears coach Matt Eberflus said about Moore's award. "It's exciting to have a player win that award, well deserved.

"But again, it comes down to the whole football team. The whole offensive squad did a nice job of executing. He doesn't get those yards and those things and all those yards without protection. The offensive line did a fabulous job. The backs, the tight ends helped in protection. And obviously Justin did a great job of delivering the ball to him. It's a whole group effort and a whole group award."

The last Bears wide receiver to win NFC offensive player of the week was wide receiver Marcus Robinson for an 11-catch, 170-yard performance with three touchdowns against the Detroit Lions on Dec. 19, 1999. His throws came from Cade McNown, who threw for 301 yards and four TDs in the game, a 28-10 Bears win at Soldier Field.

The last Bears offensive winner of an NFC player of the week was Justin Fields for Nov. 6, 2022 in Week 9, when he set the NFL quarterback single-game rushing record with 178 yards in a 35-32 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
