Ryan Pace Legacy Tarnished Even More

Patrick Mahomes' father told AM-670's Parkins and Spiegel that his son was expecting to become a Chicago Bear and had been told this would be the case.

The problem with Patrick Mahomes making the Super Bowl again is the same one as the last time he made it, and also when he faces the Bears.

They have to retell how Mahomes got passed over by the Bears in favor of Mitchell Trubisky, over and over and over.

Perhaps only the Batman origin has been retold more times than the Mahomes origin.

But on Monday, with almost two weeks to go before the Super Bowl, Mahomes' father was on WSCR-AM 670 telling listeners the tale again, except with a new twist that kind of explains why his son decided to mock the Bears at Soldier Field a few years ago by flashing 10 fingers after a TD.

His father, Patrick Sr., told Parkins & Spiegel that former Bears GM Ryan Pace told Mahomes he was being drafted at No. 3 by Chicago. Then, of course, the Bears moved up one in a trade to draft Mitchell Trubisky and Mahomes fell to 10th before Kansas City traded up and took him.

"We thought he was going to be the third pick overall and go to Chicago," Patrick Mahomes Sr. said. "He had a great meeting when he went there and liked all the guys that were doing the stuff there and thought he was going to be a Bear. 

"Then once they traded up and got Mitch, it kind of hurt him. It really did. He always knew that Kansas City had told him that they were going to come up and get him. They just didn’t know how far they’d have to go. But initially, he thought he was going to be a Chicago Bear.”

It probably doesn't say much for Patrick Jr. when his father said he "liked all the guys that were doing the stuff there," in Chicago, because it means he had a good opinion of John Fox, Pace and offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains.

At least Pace had someone convinced they were drafting third and taking Mahomes. Pace sure didn't have John Lynch convinced, and the 49ers GM played it to the hilt by soaking him for two third-rounders and a fourth-rounder to move up one spot for Trubisky.

Over a year after Poles is gone, and Matt Nagy is back in Kansas City going to a Super Bowl as Mahomes' position coach, Bears fans took to social media angered over something entirely irrelevant now because different people are running the show.

All of the complaints should be forwarded to Atlanta, where Pace now works.
