Bears Inactives: Velus Jones Jr. to Sit Out

Velus Jones Jr. is sitting out as Equanimeous St. Brown returns from injured reserve.

Bears running back Khalil Herbert will not return from injured reserve to face the Carolina Panthers in Thursday night's game.

Herbert, wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown and cornerback Josh Blackwell all were eligible to come off IR, but only St. Brown and Blackwell are coming onto the 53-man roster.

St. Brown's return led to Velus Jones Jr. being left inactive for the game. It was the only surprise on the inactive list.

The other Bears inactives are QB Justin Fields (thumb), FB Khari Blasingame (concussion), CB Terell Smith (illness), LB Tremaine Edmunds (knee), guard Nate Davis (ankle) and DE Dominique Robinson.

For the Panthers, inactives include edge rusher Brian Burns (concussion), WR Laviska Shenault Jr., WR DJ Chark Jr., CB C.J. Henderson (concussion), OL Nash Jensen and TE Stephen Sullivan.

Herbert has been out with an ankle injury since injuring it Oct. 5 against the Washington Commanders during a 40-20 Bears win. Herbert had run for 103 yards the prior game against the Denver Broncos as he had just begun to heat up when the injury occurred.

St. Brown suffered a hamstring injury against Washington and has only one catch on the year. He had been inactive the first three weeks of the season.

Blackwell has been out since the end of September with a hamstring injury.

The Bears had made room on the 53-man roster for the two by waiving cornerback Greg Stroman Jr. and safety Duron Harmon. It's possible those players could be brought back for the practice squad.
