The Matchup: The Bears and Colts are holding joint practices Tuesday and Wednesday and playing Saturday after the Bears beat Tennessee 23-17 and the Colts lost to Buffalo 23-19 in Week 1 of preseason. It's the first time coach Matt Eberflus has taken the Bears against the Colts, the team he was defensive coordinator for from 2018-21 before coming to Chicago last year. ... The Bears haven't lost a preseason game under Eberflus (4-0), who was 3-14 in his first NFL season. The Colts played their first game last week under new coach Shane Steichen. Justin Fields threw for 129 yards on 3 of 3 with two touchdowns last week, both TDs coming on screen passes. DJ Moore caught one and broke it for a 62-yard score on the first Bears possession and Khalil Herbert took the other one 56 yards.  The Bears had eight sacks and 11 quarterback hits in the victory, while intercepting two passes and causing three fumbles. Terrell Lewis had two of the sacks, including a strip-sack.

The Colts officially announced this week rookie Anthony Richardson would be their starting quarterback for the season opener over Gardner Minshew. Running back Jonathan Taylor has not been participating in practices since saying he wanted a trade prior to training camp, and he is also on the physically unable to perform list.

Key Bears to Watch: Fields will get more playing time this week after being on for only two abbreviated series last week. The same is true of receivers DJ Moore and Darnell Mooney and running back Khalil Herbert. ...  The Bears gave 12 carries to rookie back Roschon Johnson last week and it will be interesting to see if he continues getting the bulk of the carries. Running back D'Onta Foreman had just three attempts in the opener and figures to get some more carries. ... How much the Bears use former Colts edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue against his older team and former Titans guard Nate Davis remains uncertain.  Ngakoue signed well into camp and might be limited to a small number of plays. Davis is returning this week from injury and might be limited, as well. ... What the Bears do at punt returner will be worth watching after Velus Jones Jr. messed up two attempts to field punts starting the game last week, including one with a lost fumble. They could look at players like Tyler Scott, Tyrique Stevenson and Dante Pettis in the role.

Key Colts to Watch: Richardson, the Indianapolis first-round pick, went 7 of 12 for 67 yards with an interception last week. The two backups, Minshew and Sam Ehlinger, combined to go 14 of 15 for 144 yards and both had passer ratings of 100 or more. ... Deon Jackson had 35 yards on six carries.  ... Michael Pittman is the top Colts receiving threat and had one catch for 9 yards last week while Malik Turner led Indianpolis in receiving with four catches for 48 yards. ... Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner did not play the first game while Shaquille Leonard, making a comeback from last year's season-ending back surgery, was in for six plays but should get more time this week as it's the dress rehearsal game moreso than the final preseason game will be.

Of Note: Ngakoue had 9 1/2 sacks last year for the Colts before leaving as a free agent to make the Bears his sixth team in eight seasons. ... WR Chase Claypool and LB Tremaine Edmunds remain injury questions for the Bears. The team hasn't reported what their injuries are. ... Bears backup QB P.J. Walker got his NFL start as a practice squad QB with the Colts. ... Besides Eberflus, there are five former Colts assistant coaches on the Bears including defensive coordinator Alan Williams. ... With the Colts, Eberflus' defenses finished in the top-10 against the run and in total takeaways all four years, and top 10 in scoring defense three times.
