Bears started the week down one wide receiver but with one more tight end target.

They signed former Rams and Lions tight end Jared Pinkney Monday while cutting wide receiver Thyrick Pitts.

Pinkney is 6-foot-4, 255 pounds and has appeared in six NFL games since he came to the Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2020 out of Vanderbilt. He hasn't been targeted for a pass on 47 NFL plays with an offense and was on 51 special teams plays.

The Falcons had Pinkney on their practice squad in 2020 and he was on the Rams practice squad in 2021 before being signed off ofit by the Lions in December of 2021. They waived him in May of 2022 and the Rams signed him back before elevating him to the game-day roster from their practice squad a few times in 2022.

The Bears had Pinkney in just before training camp began with a group of players for workouts.

At Vanderbilt, Pinkey made 114 receptions for 1,560 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Barring an unreported training camp injury from Saturday to either Robert Tonyan Jr. or Cole Kmet, Pinkney figures as roster competition for veteran tight end Stephen Carlson and for second-year undrafted tight ends Jake Tonges and Chase Allen.

Pitts is an undrafted rookie wide receiver from Pitt signed by the Bears this past spring.
