The Bears officially have problems at guard, and this isn't good for Justin Fields.

After a preseason and training camp when Nate Davis missed time, their right guard free agent acquisition did not make the trip to Tampa for a "personal" reason. The Chicago Tribune quoted a source saying the absence is due to the death of a close family member on Saturday morning.

He is listed doubtful for Sunday's game with the Tampa Buccaneers.

This will make it two starting offensive lines in two weeks for the Bears, who struggled from this standpoint with lineup changes up front all last year, as well.

The Bears have elevated offensive lineman Aviente Collins from the practice squad for the game. Collins is a tackle.

Guards Dan Feeney and Ja'Tyre Carter could potentially fill in and Feeney would seem the likely choice as a former starter with the Los Angeles Chargers over three seasons. He has 64 NFL starts in 97 games, the last seven starts coming in 2021 and 2022 for the New York Jets.

Carter got into three games for 31 offensive plays last season as a rookie seventh-round draft pick.

Slot cornerback Josh Blackwell has been ruled out for the game. The backup to injured slot cornerback starter Kyler Gordon was listed as doubtful on Friday due to a hamstring injury.

The Bears already have said they'll be without defensive coordinator Alan Williams for personal reasons and coach Matt Eberflus will handle his coaching duties in the game.
