Extra Late Pick for Bears

In this story:
The Bears have received a bit of a surprise compensatory pick in this draft.
The league announced 37 compensatory picks for this draft as the exact selection order is now set and the Bears were given one even though they didn't really expect it.
The San Francisco 49ers received a league-high seven compensatory picks, the Rams four and the first one awarded was No. 96 at the end of Round 3 to Arizona.
The Bears get pick No. 258 near the end of Round 7 and the Houston Texans get pick No. 259, the "Mr. Irrelevant" pick. These are actually pick 259 and 260, but the Miami Dolphins forfeited their first-round pick.
The pick the Bears got was a supplemental pick. The league gives out extra picks if the number of compensatory picks is less than 32 and it was. As a result, extra picks were given out at the end of the draft.
Compensatory picks are given out based on a formula applied involving lost free agents the previous year. The league does not reveal the exact formula.
So the Bears with this pick and with the other compensatory picks applied have the following draft picks:
- Round 1, No. 1
- Round 2, No. 52 (from Baltimore)
- Round 3, No. 64
- Round 4, No. 103
- Round 4, No. 133 (From Philadelphia)
- Round 5, No. 136
- Round 6, No. 149
- Round 7, No. 218
- Round 7, No. 259 (compensatory)
