At least in the view of one writer and "sources," the talk by the Bears about tackle Darnell Wright being a HITS principle player could be exaggerated.

The Bears talked at length about Wright's high character regarding how he stayed at Tennessee intead of leaving in a portal after the school's recruiting scandal but veteran NFL reporter Bob McGinn had a different take.

McGinn, a longtime Packers writer who writes for Go Long, reported on the subscription site that "scouts" told him Wright is a talent but doesn't have good work ethic at all.

He said one scout told him: "The guy's a starting left or right tackle. Case closed. But when you did into it, he's never been much of a worker. Barely does enough to get by. Not super cooperative. Hard work is not in his vocabulary. Just does enough..."

The report said Wright had a low Wonderlic score of 18.

"He's got character but he's talented," another scout told McGin. "He's just got poor football character. Lazy, but he blocked Alabama, he blocked Georgia like it was nothing."

Wright's ability to shut down Will Anderson was trumpeted by the Bears on draft day.

The most critical comments might have been an assessment saying, "I think he could flame out pretty quick because he's not a worker. It might not be as easy as he thinks it's going to be in the league."

Apparently it's incumbent upon the Bears to bring out of Wright what he showed against top competition.

Another scout was quoted as saying "Pro Bowl-caliber player. Looked a lot more comfortable on the right side. Really strong hands. Aggressive, can move people in the run game. Hard to beat in pass pro because he's good with his set. You can't run through him because he's strong."

The assessment of the entire offensive line group offered by some scouts is very poor, when it was being billed by some as phenomenal prior to the draft.
