Trimming the Bears Roster

In this story:
The roster cuts began in earnest Tuesday for the Bears after a few on Monday.
It's produced no shockers as of 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday with 10 more players to go, that is, unless you were a fan of Michael Schofield, Mario Edwards Jr. or a Notre Dame fan who loved Chris Finke. All three were cut. Edwards proving once again you can't make the club from in the tub.
Schofield's departure probably ensures Teven Jenkins on the roster and possibly as starter. It would be too far to go to say for certain he is starter at right guard when they could use Sam Mustipher or even put Lucas Patrick there when he is back from his broken finger, and then play Mustipher at center.
Coaches have loved what Jenkins did, though, accepting a big challenge and in two weeks learning the position well enough to put on a solid efffort.
Among players cut were Lachavious Simmons, the seventh-round tackle who had been given the team's best Pro Football Focus grade for preseason. Go figure. It doesn't say much for PFF.
If there is a surprise, it was former Commanders cornerback Greg Stroman, who won the last preseason game by knocking away the two-point conversion pass from Javon Wims. Stroman also had an interception earlier in the game, but had some injuries earlier in camp and hadn't shown much until the game.
The fun will be at practice. They have a late practice scheduled for Tuesday and suddenly there will be so few players on the field.
Here is the updated Bears roster cuts tracker as of 2:40 p.m. Aug. 30. They needed 10 more cuts at that point, or less if some of the players are going on injured reserve.
