Zac Taylor on La'el Collins Release: 'It Sucks When You Have to Tell a Guy Like That Bye'

The Bengals released the 30-year-old on Tuesday.

CINCINNATI — The Bengals released veteran offensive tackle La'el Collins on Tuesday. The 30-year-old made 15 starts for Cincinnati last season before suffering a torn ACL on Christmas Eve against the Patriots.

Head coach Zac Taylor admitted that moving on from Collins wasn't easy.

"It's tough. There's never a great time. He worked really hard for us. Have a lot of respect for LC and the way he went about his business," Taylor said. "Gave us some really good snaps last year until the injury. He's one of those guys that just loves ball and you enjoy being around him.

"There's never a great time to do it and it sucks when you have to tell a guy like that bye."

The Bengals cleared at least $6.2 million in cap room this season and over $7 million in 2024. Moving on from a veteran is never easy, but he seemed like a perfect lineman to have in the building, just in case there are injuries later in the year.

Collins signed with the Bengals in free agency prior to the 2022 campaign. For more on the decision to release him, go here.
