Zac Taylor: 'Probably The Biggest Rain Game I've Been A Part of in 10 Years'

Cincinnati isn't worried about Sunday's issues carrying on throughout the 2023 season.

CINCINNATI — Bengals head coach Zac Taylor met with the media on Monday and drove home how the team isn't worried about Sunday's 24-3 debacle in Cleveland.

Taylor discussed the weather's impact on Joe Burrow, who posted some of the worst counting stats he's ever had in an NFL game (single-game career lows in passing yards and completion rate).

"That was probably the biggest rain game I've been a part of in 10 years," Taylor said to the media. "I can't speak for them but you saw in the kicking game, and so sometimes the ball just gets away from you. Can't get a great grip on it. There's a battle of 'Okay, let's get some quick game.' That's even harder because you gotta grab it quicker and you don't get a grip and then you're trying to play action and maybe get a better grip and push it down the field. Well, then they got a pretty good (pass) rush, they're putting five D-linemen in the game and creating problems that way. (There are things) You have to continue to balance. I thought they (Cleveland) did a great job handling it and there's some things that we can certainly do better."

Cincinnati went 2-of-15 on third down Sunday and was blown out for the first time since...the last trip to Cleveland on Halloween 2022.

Still, Cincinnati is 1-4 in Taylor's season openers and has two AFC Championship appearances over that period.

"You don't overstate a lot of the things that happened," Taylor said. "There's so many things that we're confident in ourselves to move forward from. There are certainly things that we could have done better that you take the elements out of it—you take the other team out of it. There are some things that usually we are much better at that we weren't good enough in, some phases of offense in particular. Feel really strong that those are things that we've cleaned up today and we will be much better moving forward."
