CINCINNATI — The Bengals defense carried a 17-13 win this past weekend as defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo asked his "Core Four" defensive linemen to go seal the deal.

Anarumo dove into his messaging to DJ Reader, Sam Hubbard, Trey Hendrickson, and B.J. Hill in the game's final moments in an interview with Locked On Bengals.

I looked at their faces," Anarumo said on the Locked On Bengals Podcast. "That's one of the reasons I like being on the sideline and not calling the game from upstairs because you get the feel of how the guys are doing. You get to look them in the eye and when it's a moment like that, they wanted to be out there, but I knew in my gut that 'Hey, I want these four guys rushing the quarterback.' And, you know, taking us right down to the end of the game even though they were gassed and I just went over there and just said, 'Hey, I need you four to be in the game and we need your best right now.' And they don't flinch. They just stood right up and were ready to go. And that's part of who we are. And part of why we've been able to do what we've done."

The "Core Four" unsurprisingly led a historic pressure day on quarterback Geno Smith as the diverse skill set from each flashed, headlined by Sam Hubbard's nine pressures and one sack.

They'll try to keep that rolling against another tough NFC West opponent in the 49ers next week.
