Bye Bye Boogie Basham? NFL Insider Predicts Bills Trade

With plenty of depth at the edge rusher position, one insider believes a trade of Boogie Basham could make sense for the Buffalo Bills.

As the old adage goes, offense wins you games but defense will win you championships. Fortunately for the Buffalo Bills, both their offense and defense are among the best in the NFL.

Leading the charge on defense are solid veterans such as linebacker Von Miller and safety Jordan Poyer, as well as the offseason addition of linebacker Leonard Floyd

However, Floyd's signing leads The Athletic's Bills insider Joe Buscaglia to believe another edge rusher could be on the trade block - third-year player Boogie Basham

"The depth also allows the Bills to recoup a pick potentially on a draft investment who hasn’t panned out as they’d hoped," Buscaglia wrote. "Boogie Basham still will carry some trade value with rebuilding teams around the league as a change-of-scenery high pick that can be had at a discounted price."

Floyd alone doesn't make Basham expendable, but rather the depth the Bills have at the position. They have the aforementioned Miller, Greg Rousseau, A.J. Epenesa and Shaq Lawson. Simply put, the Bills' depth means Basham potentially becomes a valuable trade piece.

In his first two seasons in the NFL, he has put up respectable numbers, though not yet having had a true breakout campaign. In 23 total appearances, Basham's recorded 37 tackles with 4.5 sacks.

Having depth is a key element for any team wanting to make a Super Bowl run as well as sustain long-term success. As it currently stands, the Bills certainly have the talent on their roster to do both. However, if Basham is seen as someone who is worth moving, then it is a potential option for Buffalo to explore.
