NFL Draft: Bills Have 'Plenty of Interest' in Florida WR Justin Shorter

Many eyes at Florida's 2023 Pro Day were on quarterback Anthony Richardson, but the Buffalo Bills were looking elsewhere ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft.

All 32 NFL teams were in attendance for the University of Florida's pro day Thursday, which featured star quarterback and likely top-10 selection Anthony Richardson.

But for the Buffalo Bills, with Josh Allen locked in under center for years to come, the focus was reportedly on those who caught Richardson's passes.

According to Pro Football Network, the Bills - along with the Jacksonville Jaguars - have "shown plenty of interest" in Florida receiver Justin Shorter throughout the pre-draft process.

The 6-4, 235-pound Shorter hauled in 29 receptions for 577 yards and two touchdowns this past season, his third with the Gators after spending two years at Penn State. Shorter, a native of Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, ran a 4.55 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

However, after playing strictly receiver throughout his college career, Shorter may be in line for a position switch at the next level ...

"Shorter needs to polish his game, but he caught the ball well and is physically impressive," PFN writes. "He’s being looked at as a hybrid pass catcher — a sort of go-between a possession receiver and move-tight end."

In Buffalo, Shorter would be something of a mismatch weapon for Allen - but he's not the only Florida player the Bills will be keeping tabs on during the leadup to the 2023 NFL Draft.

Per PFN, the Bills have a top-30 visit scheduled with defensive tackle Gervon Dexter, who had 55 tackles, four tackles for loss, four quarterback hurries and two sacks across 13 starts for the Gators.

Dexter also has visits lined up with the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens and is currently at just 15-percent body fat on his 6-6, 318-pound frame.

The Bills drafted Florida cornerback Kaiir Elam in the first-round last year and certainly could tap into the well at some point this spring ... with the answer set to come in late April.
