Cancel Culture: Did 'Arrogance' Nix Bills' Jordan Poyer's Trump Golf Tournament?
Despite media backlash and wholesale sponsors backing out - forcing it to be canceled this year - the wife of Buffalo Bills' safety Jordan Poyer says the couple's charity golf tournament will take place in the Summer of 2024 at the same controversial site: Trump National Golf Course in Doral, Florida.
Poyer, Buffalo's All-Pro defender, announced last week that he was being forced to nix this year's Celebrity Open golf event scheduled for July 10. But his wife, Rachel Bush, posted a couple of defiant messages to her Twitter this week, blaming the cancellation on "the arrogance of others" and promising to hold the tournament next year.
Wrote Bush: "The event was cancelled due to the arrogance of others, and then backing out last minute leaving us in a difficult spot to make everything happen properly. ... We want it to be great and next year it will be outstanding! ... We will always stand proudly with our beliefs and hold true to them. Publicly. ... Tournament will be at same spot next year. Trump’s course.
While Bush went on to send a "huge thank you to Trump," Poyer has received public support from the likes of teammates Josh Allen and Gabe Davis.
In an Instagram announcing this year's cancellation, Poyer expressed disappointment and said he was "upset about this is where we are in America. It seems like our egos get in the way of being a good human being."
After her messages in support of the polarizing former President, Bush's last tweet to her 109,000 followers felt like a goodbye.
Wrote Bush: "Now I’m getting off twitter again."
