Bills' Josh Allen Ready to Play With O'Cyrus Torrence 'For A Long Time'
Earning Josh Allen's trust goes a long way toward solidifying a player's standing on the offensive side of the ball.
Buffalo Bills rookie offensive lineman O'Cyrus Torrence has managed to do that throughout training camp and made his case on Saturday to be one of the five starting linemen on Sept. 11 against the New York Jets. Torrence played right guard on Buffalo's starting offense, which marched right down the field in 12 plays on a 72-yard opening drive to score in its 24-21 win over the Chicago Bears on Saturday at Soldier Field.
Along with his ability to protect Allen, Torrence's communication and demeanor have earned the trust of the sixth-year quarterback.
"At right guard, he controls the silent snap, so he's looking back and making sure we're getting that going," Allen said. "I think that's a big responsibility, and as a rookie, he hasn't flinched at all w ith it. Communication-wise, with that first line, he's been doing a good job."
Allen explained that Torrence's quiet approach hardly makes him unnoticeable.
"He doesn't really speak a lot," Allen said. "Guys don't really hear his voice, but he communicates really well with the offensive line. He's so focused on doing his job, and it's awesome to see that coming from a guy that's so young. He's going to be good for us for a long time."
Buffalo drafted Torrence in the second round with the No. 59 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Torrence playing with the starting offensive line shows his growth from the beginning of training camp. While up-and-downs are inevitable for the rookie, already earning Allen's trust and likely a spot on the starting offensive line bodes well for the Bills and his future.
