Bills QB Josh Allen Flashes, But Starters Flop vs. Steelers

As far as the offense goes, the play of Josh Allen and the receivers was all there was to write home about for the Buffalo Bills starters in the first half of Saturday's preseason tilt against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Both the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers rolled out their offensive starters for the first half of Saturday's preseason game at Acrisure Stadium, but the two sides played quite differently.

The Steelers headed into halftime with a commanding 21-0 lead, as the Bills went scoreless due to inefficient offensive play and way too many penalties on the o-line. But Allen was hardly to blame.

He sat after three series, but made the most of what will likely be his only action in preseason. Allen went an efficient 7 of 10 passing for 64 yards, making some impressive throws in the process. He could've added more to the stat sheet if not for o-line penalties, including a 35-yard strike to receiver Gabe Davis that was called back due to a holding penalty from Spencer Brown.

But on the throws that did count, Allen had nice connections with Stefon Diggs and Davis on the sidelines for 14 yards apiece. Diggs finished with two catches for 22 yards while Davis had two grabs for 29 yards.

As far as the offense goes, Allen's and the receiver's short playing time was all there was to write home about for the starters in the first half. Bills running back James Cook finished with just three carries for three yards while veteran Latavius Murray came in and had a solid six carries for 26 yards.

The Bills likely want to see more from their starting offense, but this might have to do ahead of the regular season.
