Bills Awarded Compensatory Pick For Tremaine Edmunds
The Buffalo Bills will take all the help they can get this offseason, and luckily for them, they just got a much-needed boost from the NFL itself.
On Friday, the Bills received a fourth-round compensatory pick, No. 133 overall, in April's NFL Draft. The pick comes as a result of the Bills losing linebacker Tremaine Edmunds to the Chicago Bears in free agency last year.
Many projections actually predicted Buffalo to get a third-round pick for Edmunds, as he signed a four-year deal worth $72 million with Chicago. However, they just barely missed the third-round cutoff in the NFL's complicated compensatory formula.
In fact, the only teams to get third-round compensatory picks were the Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers.
Of that quartet, the Rams and 49ers received their picks due to their coaches/executives being hired by other teams, Raheem Morris for L.A. and DeMeco Ryans/Ran Carthon for San Francisco. The Jaguars and Eagles received their picks from losing Jawaan Taylor and Javon Hargrave, respectively, in free agency.
The Bills earned just one compensatory pick, while the Rams and 49ers received the most with five each.
