Bills Reveal Offseason Training Program Dates

The Buffalo Bills are set to begin their offseason workout program for the 2023 NFL season on April 17.

With the 2023 NFL Draft just over one month away, the Buffalo Bills have announced the key dates for their offseason workout program.

The schedule was confirmed by a NFL communications memo sent on Friday afternoon.

For the Bills, their offseason program will begin on April 17 in Orchard Park. The team will conduct 10 voluntary organized team activities between May 22 and June 8. Mandatory minicamp is set to begin on June 13.

Here is the Buffalo Bills Offseason Workout Program Calendar for 2023:

(dates are subject to change at the discretion of the team):

First Day: April 17

OTA Offseason Workouts: May 22-23, May 25, May 30-June 1, June 5-6, June 8

Mandatory Minicamp: June 13-15

Voluntary offseason workout programs are intended to provide training, teaching and physical conditioning for players. Per the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, the voluntary nine-week offseason program is conducted in three phases:

The first phase of the program consists of activities including meetings, strength and conditioning and physical rehabilitation. These activities take place over the course of a two-week period.

During the second phase, teams are able to increase their activities to on-field workouts. The workouts will take place over three weeks. They may include individual or group instruction and drills, as well as “perfect play drills,” and plays with “offensive players lining up across from offensive players and defensive players lining up across from defensive players, conducted at a walk through pace,” per NFL directive.

No live contact or team offense versus team defense drills are permitted during this time.

The third phase takes place over the final four weeks of the program. Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, otherwise known as OTAs. At this time, 7-on-7, 9-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills are permitted without live contact.

Each club may also hold a rookie football development program for a period of seven weeks, beginning on May 15. During this period, no activities may be held on weekends, with the exception of one post-draft rookie minicamp, which may be conducted on either the first or second weekend following the draft.

The dates of each club’s post-draft rookie minicamps — including the Bills — will be circulated at a later date.
